Sustainability Report 2020

We at Schur Flexibles carry sustainability in our DNA. We care about our planet and our future, continually investing in R&D to offer recyclable alternatives, which keep our ecosystem in balance and accelerate change for a better world. With our Sustainability Report 2020, we offer a comprehensive overview of our sustainability activities, reflecting our purpose and overall objectives.

Our strategy is built on our 5R approach based on our five pillars of responsibility, reduction, renewal, replacement and recycling. We constantly adapt to a changing world and question “how” we produce in each and every step of our business to creatively shape change in the flexible packaging industry. In 2020, we signed the UN Global Compact, committing ourselves to operating in accordance with its ten principles focusing on human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption.

To ensure the highest degree of transparency, our report adheres to the indicators of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), providing an objective and verifiable description of our actions and accomplishments. It minutely describes our strategy, processes and our projects, presenting our achievements in connection with our twelve materiality topics and explaining how we aim to reach our specific goals in the future.

A big thank you to our sustainability team – Martin Berlekamp, Fiene Berger and Max Wolfmaier - for further enhancing the data accuracy and the scope of our reporting and making this publication possible. These experienced industry experts with profound knowledge of our technologies are our Group’s competence centre, navigating the jungle of legislation across Europe and maintaining strong relationships with our key stakeholders. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our employees in other departments and sections for all their hard work to finetune our products and processes. It’s our people who drive our continuous improvement and make Schur Flexibles a leader in sustainability.

We do not rest on our laurels, however. To boost the efforts of our dedicated team and to ensure that sustainability always stays on top of the agenda, we have appointed a Sustainability Committee in 2021. Acting as an advisor to our Management Board, it will support us in taking the next step on our journey towards a circular economy.
